Shri. Balkishanji Modi, a well wisher & patron of Lions Club of Millennium was overwhelmed with the plight of those unfortunate, needy children of the society whose parents can not dream of such an expensive surgery due to their financial constraints.
The concept came into reality when Lions Club of Millennium and Rotary Club of Versova joined hands with Shanti Vishvamangal Foundation. With the major financial support of Shanti Vishvamangal Foundation and with the organized team work of Lions & Rotary Club, the first free orthopedic took place in 2001 in Lion Kartar Singh Hospital. The response and the results were tremendous. The first camp was followed by a series of such annual camps since then. The statistics given speaks of the magnitude of work undertaken.
The main architect of the camp is Dr. Ashok Johri who enjoys a place in the hall of Fame at International level in the field of orthopedic surgery. His dedication to his profession is exemplary. God has empowered him with the extra ordinary capacity to work for more than 18 hours out of 24 hours. His services come to the camp completely free of charge. His team of doctors & staff also come from different parts of the country to contribute their share of skill & knowledge without any remuneration.
